Those who dare to speak the Truth

What is the truth? The dictionary describes truth as being, " the true or actual state of a matter". But who is actually brave enough to tell the actual state of a matter or situation. There is one person that comes to my mind every time, Helmuth Hubener from The Boy Who Dared. He was courageous and brave enough to speak the truth even when it had a death penalty attached to it. Many people Nowadays say its ok to speak a "little white lie". But is it really ok? Most people think that lieng is morally bad. But others say that lieng helps to protect those around them. I think that the truth is the only pure thing with no strings attached. Even tho being truthful can be the hard thing to do most of the time. But if you think about it only the hard things in life are the best an most accomplishing things. Telling the truth no matter what was one of Helmuths major character traits. He spoke out against the whole of Hitler and the Nazis. So why cant we just tell the truth about who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?

  1. Hello Nick Clerk!
I think that this is a really great blog post! It is interesting, and doesn't only express key factors in the book "The Boy Who Dared" but it also questions our morals as people. I hear so often about how people said one thing, and did the other, or promised that they had done something, when they hadn't. That is one of the most common ones. And even though I completely admit to doing this all the time, especially when I don't mean to. It is just so often the easiest thing to do. I read this book for last quarters Read For A Life Time blogging assignment, and will say without a doubt, that Helmuth was one of the bravest, Morally the strongest, and over all one of the most honest kids ever. He was willing to shout out the truth to his fellow citizens even when it put his life on the line. That is courage.
I like this blog post! Well done.
Oh and It was me who stole the cookie… Sorry.
